Expanded coverage offers unparalleled insights into the commercial translation of research

Today, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve integrated over 1.4 million patents from Russia into our Dimensions platform, which provides information on scholarly research activity worldwide.

The only research insights platform to consistently link Russian patent information to publications from universities and research institutes globally, Dimensions aims to transform the way research is discovered, accessed and analyzed.

In addition to patents, Dimensions is also the most complete source of funded grant information, with data for projects totalling over $1.3tn funding from more than 250 organizations worldwide, including key funders from G20 and OECD countries and beyond. It enables users to explore the connections across the research lifecycle by linking this extensive funding and patent data with their associated publications, clinical trials and scholarly metrics.

With the new integration of Russian Patent Office data, provided by patent services company IFI CLAIMS, sourcing the records directly from Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS) as well as European Patent Office (EPO), users of Dimensions are able to easily explore all of the patents and further refine search results to specific years, disciplines, and legal status.

Individual publication pages within the platform will also show where publications have been referenced in Russian-issued patents, making it possible to identify the paths leading to the commercialization of research from around the world.

Speaking about the new integration, Igor Osipov, VP, Academic & Government EMEA, and CEO of Digital Science in Russia, commented:

“We know that our partners in Russia and across the Commonwealth of Independent States will welcome this long-awaited development. Dimensions is a unique source of data for researchers and decision-makers, supporting the rapid path to digital economy transformation and increased international visibility of priority science areas”.

Dr. Inna Shevchenko, Acting Rector of Southern Federal University, said of the addition:

“Dimensions is the first digital platform that combines information on publications, scientific grants, patents and clinical trials in a single place, making it a vital tool for research planning. Adding data of the Russian Patent Office allows us to visualize the domestic patent landscape and greatly expands the attractiveness of Dimensions as a new solution for the growth of extended networks of universities, scientific organizations, and industry”.

Daniel Hook, Managing Director of Digital Science, adds:

“By enabling users to explore the connections between the different elements, outputs and associated metrics of the scholarly ecosystem, we hope to place the power of information back in the hands of the research community. Russia is a very important part of this picture, and the extensive data now available within Dimensions provides a valuable, reliable resource for research institutions and policy makers”.

The new patent data is available now in Dimensions.
