Digital Science Hosts a Science Disrupt Event

If you dont have time to watch the whole presentation, the team at Science Disrupt have produced videos of each individual speaker! 

Science: Disrupt is attempting to ruffle a few scientific feathers. It’s a media platform created to challenge the way science is done, find trailblazers pushing the innovation agenda and provide a stage and a community, through which change can be championed. Mixing podcasting, editorial and events, they aim to reach a diverse range of innovators, iconoclasts and entrepreneurs – but most importantly – bring them all together. Science: Disrupt is built on the belief that in order to disrupt, difficult discussions need to be had…and they intend to do just that.

On the 4th of December at Digital Science’s London headquarters, Science: Disrupt’s event ‘Disrupting the Lab’ was held. We talked about Open Science, the future of lab automation, and moving science out of the lab.

Speakers that attended:

  • Ali Afshar – Co-Founder of HackScience. Accelerating research through cheap and quick-to-deploy automation.
  • Bethan Wolfenden – Co-Founder of BentoBio. Democratising molecular biology with a laptop sized laboratory.
  • Ravi Desai – Post-Doctoral Researcher. Building the Biological Making Lab at The Crick.
  • Steve Scott – Director of Portfolio Development at Digital Science.

It’s always interesting attending events like this – almost everyone seems to have a PhD!

It was great to see our Steve Scott talking about Digital Science’s new investment, Transcriptic, and also current and future lab tech!

Events like Science Disrupt never fail to create heated debates about the ‘big issues’ – that’s why there are so much fun to attend!
