Springer Nature Hosts First SciGraph Hack Day “Linked Open Data in Action”

10th August 2017
 | Katy Alexander

On June 23rd 2017, Digital Science supported Springer Nature’s first ever SciGraph Hack Day “Linked Open Data in Action”. Researchers, developers and Springer Nature staff came together to meet, collaborate and build tools using Springer Nature SciGraph Linked Open Data.

About 30 internal and external participants joined forces from different parts of Europe including the UK, Germany, Denmark and Romania. By drawing on a set of suggestions created in preparation for the Hack Day, participants brainstormed ideas and looked to create new tools to solve challenges.

At the end of the day, a series of presentations and demos summarising the achievements of those involved in the SciGraph Hack Day were given before continuing conversations at a near by pub.

If you didn’t get a chance to attend this year’s SciGraph Hack Day, the team at Springer Nature have produced a short summary video you can view below.

What is Springer Nature SciGraph?

Springer Nature SciGraph collates information from across the research landscape, such as funders, research projects and grants, conferences, affiliations, and publications. Currently the knowledge graph contains 155 million facts (triples) about objects of interest to the scholarly domain. Additional data, such as citations, patents, clinical trials, and usage numbers will follow in stages, so that by the end of 2017 Springer Nature SciGraph will grow to more than one billion triples. The vast majority of these datasets will be freely accessible and provided in a way to enable experts to analyze downloaded datasets using their own machines, or via exploration tools on the Springer Nature SciGraph website which is being continuously enhanced.
