UberresearchprizeOver the last few months, in conjunction with the ÜberResearch team, we launched a Twitter competition open to PhD students. The task was to tweet how you would spend £10 million of science funding using the hashtag #uberresearchprize.

The top three tweets, as voted by our judging panel, were then invited to write a blog post, elaborating on their original tweet. Here are the top three posts:

Overall, the competition was a great success with hundreds of tweets on the hashtag. Judging panel member Allan Sudlow from the British Library adds:

“This competition gave scientists a great opportunity to think creatively beyond their own research domains, something the Science Team at the British Library is keen to help support”

But, what you all want to know,is who has scooped the prize of a brand-new MacBook Pro, fully stocked with a years Premium Figshare account, a pro license for Readcube, and a Projects license…

So without further adieu, we would like to announce that the winner of the #uberresearchprize is Isabel Webb for her post on “How do you know you want to be a scientist.”

Isabel’s post was an engaging and positive piece, highlighting the social and gender challenges associated with attracting potential scientists of the future.

Thanks to everyone who has been involved in the competition, especially to the runners up, Kevin and Darin for their great blog entries. We hope you have enjoyed the competition as much as we have!
