5th June 2014

Last year, Authorea was awarded the Digital Science Catalyst Grant. Now they have come to the end of the programme, we thought we would give you a summary of how they have used their investment.

Firstly, for those of you that don’t know, the Catalyst Grant offers up to £15,000 to help you take your idea from concept to prototype. If you want to find out more, you can watch a collection of testimonial videos from those who have received grants here.

What is Authorea?

Authorea lets you write scientific articles on the web, for the web. Every document you create becomes a webpage which you can choose to share with your co-authors and the public. Authorea lets you write in LaTeX, Markdown, HTML, Javascript, and more. You can check out this online tutorial video which gives you more of a flavour of what Authorea offers:

So, what did Authorea do with the Catalyst Grant?

When reading a scientific article, did you ever wish that the data behind the figures was available?

Especially for graphics, wouldn’t it be nice if you could not only access the data associated with it, but have access to the code that was used to make it? Thanks to the work Authorea did under the Catalyst Grant, now you can! Further details on this work can be found here

What do Authorea have to say about their Catalyst Grant experience?

Co-founder of Authorea, Alberto Pepe concludes,

“We highly recommend the Catalyst Grant Program for early stage startups and we thank Digital Science for giving us the opportunity to work with them these past 6 months.”
