OCLC Research have publisher their Registering Researchers in Authority Files Research Report. The report has been co-authored by a specialist OCLC Task Group, which includes Daniel Hook, Digital Science’s Director of Research Metrics.

Registering researchers in some type of authority file or identifier system has become more compelling as both institutions and researchers recognize the need to compile their scholarly output. The OCLC report presents functional requirements and recommendations for six stake-holders: researcher, funder, university administrator, librarian, identity management system and aggregator (including publishers). The report also provides an overview of the researcher identifier landscape, changes in the field, emerging trends, and opportunities.

Supplementary data sets document the task group’s research and are also available to download. The report and its supplementary data sets is of interest to everyone who has a stake in identifying the research output of individual authors and institutions.

There will also be an opportunity to discuss the report via a webinar on November 13th, which Daniel Hook is participating in.
