ReadCube Data Gives Preliminary Results of NPG’s Scientific Article Sharing Trial #scishare

December marks the 12-month milestone since Nature Publishing Group (NPG) launched their content sharing trial (#scishare) using ReadCube technology.

Originally set up to enable subscribers to 49 journals on nature.com to legitimately and conveniently share full text of articles of interest with colleagues without a subscription via a shareable web link on nature.com. The trial was also extended to readers of 100 global media outlets and blogs from around the world.

This initiative was originally developed in order to help researchers collaborate, and provide the public with a way to read scientific content that has not been available to them before.  This is complementary to, not an alternative to Springer Nature’s many open access and open research activities.

And a year on, the preliminary results of the trial are in! The good news is, full-text articles on nature.com will continue to be made widely available to read and share as the content sharing initiative becomes permanent.
