Survey on Sharing Data and Open Data

26th June 2017
 | Katy Alexander

We are delighted to announce the launch of our 2017 survey asking researchers about their use of and attitudes to data, and in particular open data.

TAKE THE SURVEY

The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. At the end you will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win one of five £100 Amazon vouchers.

We always intended to repeat the survey annually, but the response we received in 2016, and the popularity of the accompanying ‘The State of Open Data’ report was very positive, and we’ve expanded what we are doing as a result.

We are again partnering with Springer Nature, but are delighted to be able to work with Wiley for the first time. Issues around open data are of importance to everyone in the sector – researchers, publishers, institutions, funders – and working with both Wiley and Springer Nature allows us to ensure we reach more people.

We have added a separate survey for research administrators, to understand the perspectives of those who support researchers as they manage, store and, increasingly often, publish their data. In addition, we are asking a broader range about researchers’ attitudes and motivations.

The results of the survey will (of course) be made available on Figshare, along with ‘The State of Open Data report – 2017’.
