#DSDataDive for Ada Lovelace Day – 10th October 2019
Register here to join Digital Science in celebrating Ada Lovelace Day with a hackathon focusing on representation in research!
Earlier this year we released a series of Digital Research Reports focusing on gender representation in UK research institutions using data from Dimensions. In November, we released a report on gender imbalance within cancer research grants. In January, we released a report about gender representation in UK research institutions using a gender guessing tool we developed. We want to celebrate Ada Lovelace Day with you by exploring new ways to combine and develop our research with other existing data sources and find ways of bringing these together to monitor progress at a glance. To do this, we are looking for people with:
- Knowledge of the challenges facing us regarding representation in research for women and other underrepresented groups
- The coding know-how that we need to bring this data together in one place
- Expert data-visualisation or graphic design skills to make our collated data easy to read
- The desire to help! If you have a skill we haven’t mentioned, but you feel would be helpful, please do come anyway.
We’ll provide the space, internet access, and fuel to bring people together. You’ll provide one or more of the aforementioned skills. Please bring a laptop and charger.
This event is free to attend, open to anyone over the age of 18, and from any background, from researchers, to developers, to designers. Food and drink will be provided. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions by emailing Suze at email@example.com.
Places are limited, so if you have registered but are later unable to make the event, please let Suze know on the email address above. We look forward to seeing you!
