The growing demand for publication analysis and research impact measurement at academic, government, and corporate institutions has led a growing number of librarians to begin offering bibliometric services to their users. Bibliometrics, the quantitative analysis of research publications, seeks to understand how research publications are produced, what they are about, and the impact they have had.

Librarians are uniquely positioned to meet this growing demand. Their knowledge of scholarly communication, their skills in information retrieval and management, and their position as a neutral third party combine to make librarians natural partners in research evaluation efforts.

This symposium seeks to bring together librarians from a range of institutions to share expertise, ideas, and best practices in providing bibliometric services. Through a blend of keynote presentations, poster sessions, and training, we hope to inspire and empower librarians to embrace this emerging dimension of librarianship.
