UKSG 2021 will be held online from 12-14 April  with both live and pre-recorded sessions and Digital Science are delighted to be part of the programme with our panel presentation:

Minding the Gap: Divining OA opportunities through data (time , date and speakers TBC).
In 2015 Jisc published a summary of how publishers might help UK institutions in the implementation of open access[1]. In the list of desiderata we outlined the importance of funder metadata to support compliance checks and to put Jisc in a stronger position to negotiate agreements with an open access component. Since then the number of open access agreements negotiated by Jisc and other consortia globally has increased significantly but the challenge of obtaining funder metadata for publications remains. While we understand that publisher systems that produce publication reports have not been designed to extract funder metadata this information is now a core requirement to supporting and evidencing a transition to OA and was highlighted as a key factor in demonstrating opportunities to consolidate multiple funding sources in publisher OA agreements in Springer Nature’s 2020 whitepaper, ‘APCs in the Wild’.

In this presentation representatives from four stakeholder groups will explain their experiences of addressing this data gap. This panel discussion will provide an update on sector progress since 2015 and how these developments can be applied more widely to resolve this ongoing issue within the next 5 years.
