Reports to Head of Legal based in UK

We are looking for someone to work at least three days a week either remotely or based in our Cambridge, MA office.

About the role:

The global Digital Science business is growing rapidly, particularly in the US and is currently advised by a single dedicated lawyer based in London, with support from its parent company – Holtzbrinck – based in Germany. This role (broad base commercial/IT/IP) will be involved in the drafting and negotiation of agreements of all types, but with an emphasis on software-as-a-service and data licenses, and will be expected to develop a general knowledge of the law typically encountered in respect of digital products and services.

Working closely with the Head of Legal in London, this role will act as the US-based legal support for Digital Science and its portfolio companies, and so must have the confidence to work autonomously (although lots of help will be available). We are a fast-paced, rapidly evolving business, so the position requires someone who can be flexible and is excellent at prioritizing, and who enjoys a challenge and isn’t fazed dealing with whatever is thrown their way.

About you:  

This role is expected to have the following qualifications/experience:

  • Licensed to practise law in relevant state
  • 5-7 years of experience practising law at a reputable US law firm or in-house in a technology company
  • Excellent academics
  • Strong background in commercial contracts (in particular technology licensing)
  • Good working knowledge of soft intellectual property, especially copyright
