About the role

We need a Systems Administrator to join our central Operations team at Digital Science. You will be responsible for the smooth running of our centrally managed IT infrastructure and applications for our portfolio companies; maintaining a comprehensive and cost-effective IT environment, administering a suite of business appropriate applications and acting as first port of call for all IT support queries.

The Key tasks

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Digital Science core business systems; monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair.

  • Apply revisions, update and re-configurations to systems firmware and software.

  • Troubleshoot and lead problem-solving often involving outside vendors and other personnel and/or organisations.

  • Develop and implement processes to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorised use, acts of nature and user abuse.

  • Develop, maintain and test procedures for appropriate risk strategies, including disaster recovery and business continuity.

  • Provide 1st to 3rd line support for all technical issues raised.

  • Manage third party contracts relating to IT and be the liaison point for the business.

  • Procure infrastructure, systems and manage associated contracts including:

    • Managing the network and provider/contract

    • Purchasing and maintaining hardware

    • Purchasing and administration of a suite of applications relevant to the business requirements

    • Keeping systems under constant review; migrating to new systems when appropriate

  • Manage the smooth running of the infrastructure: LAN, Wifi, Internet, telephony and printing.

  • Manage the administration of existing applications, including but not limited to: OneLogin, JumpCloud, G Suite, MS Office, Slack, Confluence, Jira, Netsuite, Concur, Zoom,

  • Actively contribute to budget expenditure planning within Operations for all IT provision.

  • Act as single point of contact with service providers for IT systems, infrastructure, facilities/landlord etc.

  • Service desk support – one stop shop for staff with IT problems in the UK and overseas

  • Liaise with Office Manager to on-board new staff – with IT equipment, log-ons, documentation/demo of systems as required.

  • Develop and maintain appropriate documentation relevant to areas of responsibility is produced and kept up-to-date.

  • Keep current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommend ways for the company to take advantage of new technologies.

  • Project-based work in collaboration with senior team members

Technologies you’ll be working with:

  • Windows / macOS client OS – installation, troubleshooting, maintenance.

  • No servers to look after, as all services that require servers are using cloud based SaaS services.

  • G Suite admin experience a must, or comprehensive knowledge of AD/LDAP or other Directory Services.

  • Web Apps: Confluence, Jira, Netsuite, Salesforce, Concur, OneLogin, JumpCloud, Zoom, Slack, G Suite.

  • Comfortable with LDAP, Radius, DNS, VPN, LAN, WAN, IP/TCP, DHCP, SSL/TLS.

  • Technology degree needed and preferably computing specific.

  • Previous work experience administering a range of IT applications and infrastructure

  • Role would suit an IT generalist, rather than a specialist
