Andres joined Digital Science in January 2014 after completing his PhD in Immunology. Historically, his research has dealt with vaccines of all sorts. At first he worked discovering potential vaccine candidates for use against Hantavirus infection, while pursuing his degree as Engineer in Biotechnology from Universidad de Chile. Then he moved on to develop custom vaccine adjuvants during his for his PhD at Trinity College Dublin. This research led to a close collaboration with Statens Serum Institute (SSI) in Denmark on the development of a novel tuberculosis vaccine.

His experience in biomedical research led him to develop strict record keeping and tracking of various lists of frozen cell samples, experimental antibody sera, transgenic cell clones and number of unopened printer cartridges.

He now enjoys being able to giving back to the research community, beyond the reach of infectious pathogens.
