Digital Science, a technology company that provides leading-edge tools that enable scholarly publishers, academic institutions and researchers to organise, share and publish academic and scientific research has unveiled a new publisher relations team.

This new agile structure will support and nurture long-term commercial relationships with the broad spectrum of publishers it serves and offer them innovative technologies that deliver breakthrough metrics and usage data, whilst making their content more valuable to researchers and academic end-users.  A plethora of publishers such as PLOS, Wiley, F1000, Nature Publishing Group, SciELO, Taylor & Francis, eLife and publishing platform providers Highwire and Atypon currently deliver solutions from Altmetric, Figshare and ReadCube, the Digital Science portfolio companies serving the publishing market.

The new team consists of:

  • Nicko Goncharoff is the newly appointed Director of Publisher Relations. Concurrently the Head of Knowledge Discovery at Digital Science, a successful serial entrepreneur, product manager and business development executive, Goncharoff brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to lead the newly created team.
  • Adrian T. Stanley joins Digital Science as  V.P. of Publisher Business Development, coming over from portfolio company ReadCube, where he held the equivalent position. Previously, Stanley was CEO of the Charlesworth Group USA and brings over 20 years of experience in the global scholarly publishing industry. He holds a number of industry board and committee posts including at the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), and the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP).
  • Betsy Donohue , the newly appointed V.P. of Publisher Business Development, brings a unique understanding of the broad publisher market from her 20 years’ experience developing and executing commercial publisher partnership strategies at Swets, working closely with society and STM publishers on smart content projects with the knowledge services company Scope eKnowledge, and developing and launching Ingram’s journals services and online portal fulfilment solution.
  • Phill Jones fills the newly created role of Head of Publisher Outreach from portfolio company ReadCube, where he supported both publishers and libraries to collaboratively develop and launch a number of innovative products. Previously, Jones was the first Editorial Director of Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) and held a faculty position at Harvard Medical School, the culmination of a diverse academic career spanning Atomic Physics, Biomedical Engineering, and Neuroscience. An active public speaker, Jones is a member of the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers early career professionals committee.

“Making our technologies available through leading publishers is one of the most important ways in which we seek to serve researchers,” said Timo Hannay, Managing Director of Digital Science. “I’m proud that we now have such a strong team to support our partners as we work with them to change the face of scholarly publishing.”
