Data – it’s infinite, revealing, and holds the power to shape our world; the sharing of it has become a new frontier in scholarly communication. Publishers hold the keys to change and enormous opportunity awaits those who take full advantage of the new technologies that allow us to share data.

Figshare now provides data services for over 20 publishers including ACS, Taylor and Francis, SpringerNature and F1000. With their Viewer and Portal products, they help publishers tackle the diverse challenges that arise when handling the complex needs of data, and ensure they can publish their data in such a way to support their engagement, discoverability and author-relationship goals.

Figshare has invited two leading publishers to talk about how Figshare shapes their workflow, and provide reasons for expanding their remit into data sharing, and how they have benefited as businesses.

Dr Maxine Smith is Online Development Editor at Geological Society London and is responsible for the maintenance, development and functionality of the Society’s online content service, The Lyell Collection. She was responsible for the setup and implementation of the Society’s Figshare portal.
