Every year, the ISMPP Annual Meeting brings together medical publishing professionals and researchers from across the world to share their insights, and Digital Science is looking forward to once again joining the event in Washington D.C.
This year, we’re delighted to be part of the conference programme across 3 sessions. Join our mini product theatre presented by Julia Kosterina Mutygullina, Product Manager – Medical Affairs, catch us in the final debate session of the event, and join Dr Mike Taylor, Head of Data Insights, for his post-conference workshop! You can also visit us at Booth #10 in the exhibit hall.

Analytics to Action: Using Compass to Inform Strategic Publication Planning and Improve Patient Outcomes
Tuesday 21 April, 10:10 AM – 10:30 AM
A critical challenge in publication planning is accurately measuring the effectiveness of scientific exchange. Without context, teams are often “blindly navigating” raw metrics rather than driving strategy. Compass empowers Medical Affairs teams with deep analytical insights across therapeutic areas, enabling them to benchmark publication performance against competitors while leveraging real-time intelligence to transform performance monitoring into actionable strategic insights.
By leveraging these insights, teams can develop targeted engagement strategies that bridge the gap between publication and clinical practice. Ultimately, this ensures that when a medication is the right choice for a patient, the HCP is more likely to have received the necessary supporting evidence in an engaging, impactful format.
In this product demo, we will walk you through:
- Multidimensional data integration: Explore our access to advanced sentiment analysis, citation tracking, social media engagement, and total reach.
- Precision benchmarking: Learn how to use therapy area and trial-type filters to segment data, allowing you to benchmark your performance and identify specific activities to boost your scientific exchange
- Evidence impact across policy and clinical practice: Identifying where your research is missing from regional policies and guidelines is just as important as seeing where it is cited. By connecting publication performance with its influence on health policy and clinical guidelines we provide regional visibility into where evidence is informing decision-making and practice, and where opportunities for further engagement and education exist

Metrics & Transparency: Chasing Attention or Measuring Impact?

Workshop
Metrics & Impact in Publications and Medical Communications: Defining What Matters and Why
Wednesday 22 April, 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Metrics in publications and medical communications are often discussed, but not always meaningfully applied. Are we tracking what truly reflects impact, or simply what is easy to count? How do expectations differ across stakeholders in Medical Affairs and HEOR, as well as publications leads, authors, or journals? And what role should AI-driven analytics, amplification efforts, social media, or publication extenders play in defining “success”?
This interactive workshop will move beyond passive metric reporting to explore how to define, select, and use metrics with purpose. Participants will examine the difference between metrics and KPIs, identify quantitative, qualitative, actionable indicators, and explore frameworks for evaluating journal performance, audience engagement, reach of congress outputs, and impact on evidence-based practice.
Case examples from pharma, agency, and journal environments will highlight where metrics have led to real decision-making — and where they have failed to reflect value. Participants will also discuss approaches to introducing and socializing metric frameworks internally, including how to justify investment or defend strategy without overpromising impact.
Learning Objectives:
- Differentiate between types of metrics (such as journal, engagement, dissemination, AI-derived) and understand what each does — and does not — measure.
- Define meaningful KPIs for a publication (e.g., inclusion in guidance documents, performance tracking, impact assessment, budget justification, or strategic storytelling)., performance tracking, impact assessment, budget justification, or strategic storytelling).
- Apply practical approaches for measuring and interpreting reach across publications, congress outputs, and publication extenders.
- Evaluate when Medical Affairs-style engagement metrics or social media indicators are appropriate — and when they risk misrepresentation.
