Times Higher Education’s mission is to be the definitive source of data, insight and expertise on higher education worldwide. Their business is built on 10 million datapoints from over 7,000 institutions in 171 countries; on unrivalled news, insight and intelligence; and on a relationship of trust with universities spanning 50 years. This unique combination enables them to help institutions and their leadership teams, as well as millions of students every year, to make the informed decisions that will define their futures.

THE is excited to be running their fourth edition of THE Campus Live ANZ, the region’s leading opportunity for administrative and academic higher education leaders to come together with industry and policy experts to debate and plan how to serve modern-day learners across Australia and New Zealand.

Title: Exploring equity issues in research metrics
Location: Treehouse, Shortland Building, Callaghan Campus
Description: This panel will explore equity issues around research metrics used in higher education, including:

  • Now that global rankings systems have expanded beyond research metrics to encompass SDGs, ESGs and impact, what are the challenges around data and metrics related to capturing the social, cultural and political impact of research?
  • What is the impact of open access to published work and datasets?
  • How are research metrics improving in relation to tracking impact, especially in areas that are not well suited traditionally to metrics evaluations, such as the creative arts, humanities and social sciences?
  • What are the ways that data collection and harvesting are evolving for national research exercises and will this be more or less equitable across different types of institutions and disciplines?
