Happy TL;DR Tuesday! Today’s TL;DR Short certainly lives up to its description as Dr Kate Devlin gives us her treat-sized take-homes on artificial intelligence.
Dr Kate Devlin is Reader in AI & Society at King’s College London, and is a co-investigator on the Responsible AI UK programme – a network that conducts and funds research into AI to benefit people, communities and society and that unites the responsible AI ecosystem in the UK and beyond. Kate was also a speaker at one of our recent events. Kate acknowledges that, much like this TL;DR Shorts episode, all things artificial intelligence are happening quickly. And, while these developments can be exciting and impactful, they must be developed responsibly, and in a trustworthy manner. Kate goes on to say that while AI is not a matter of existential risk, we should care about the power imbalance that exists in research around AI and its societal impact, as if not kept in check, the inequity of who and how AI can impact will grow.
