Highlights from Ada Lovelace Day 2015

13th January 2016

Last year, on the 13th October celebrations took place to mark Ada Lovelace Day (ALD), an international event that celebrates the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

And the festivities had an aim: to increase the profile of women in STEM!

Events took place across the globe, including a panel event run as part of Digital Science’s Spotlight series looking at: Bridging the Gender Gap – How Men Can Be Allies for Women in STEM.

However, the main event ALD Live! took place at Conway Hall in London, organized by founder Suw Charman-Anderson. Digital Science was also a proud sponsor and the evening line-up featured an amazing group of speakers talking about everything from the Mars Rover to nano-materials.

Highlights from the event are captured in this video below:

Throughout the month of October, we also hosted a series of blog posts where inspiring women and men in STEM shared their personal female role models. Anyone was able to get involved and we encouraged everyone to share their role models on social media using the hashtag #MySTEMrolemodel – I urge you to check out the series, the blog posts are littered with advice, encouragement and inspiring stories which never get old!

What’s up next for ALD?

Back in September 2015, just before the events kicked off, Digital Science announced that our latest ‘Catalyst Grant’ award would be offered to the team at ALD to realize their next goals. This grant will help launch two online interactive tools to help advance women in STEM. There will be a new events database, which will make it easy for organizers to share their ALD events and for participants to find festivities near them. There will also be a further resources database providing easy access to essential information for women in STEM, including details of professional and grassroots organizations and funding opportunities.
