Spotlight

Join us for our first ever Spotlight event, a community event series that will look at the challenges researchers face and how they can be addressed.

Our first event will take place in London on the evening of the 26th February and its focus will be on Open Data for researchers. RSVP here to get your free spot.

Open Data is a term often used to define how data are (or ‘is’, depending on your preference) published – in a way that enables sharing and re-use without barriers.

This event will review the need for Open Data in research and scholarly communication, highlighting examples of why and where Open Data is valuable.

Speakers will present some recent initiatives in putting Open Data into practice and debate the priorities for what researchers and publishers should be doing to enable access to and re-use of scientific data.

What does Open Data mean – practically – for researchers and publishers?

The panel will include:

* Ross Mounce, University of Bath – Moderator
* Alan Hyndman, figshare
* Michael Markie, F1000
* Amye Kenall, BioMed Central
* Andrew Hufton, Scientific Data
* Tom Pollard, UCL

Each panel member will talk for a set amount of time, then there will be a Q&A debate afterwards.

The Twitter hashtag for this event will be #opendataspotlight.
