Today, Swiss biomedical publisher Karger has partnered with Figshare to help with the presentation of supplementary material which accompanies many of its articles.

Through this partnership, Karger is able to further enhance the service and support it offers to its authors. Karger said of the news:

“The online digital repository Figshare ensures that all new supplementary material at Karger will be provided with a unique DOI number and will consequently be discoverable as well as citable independently as well as in the context of the Karger article it complements. Data uploaded to Figshare are presented in a visually appealing and consistent way and, regardless of the original format, size, or medium, can be easily accessed by readers.”

The growing diversity of research outputs has meant that publishers are looking for new ways to incorporate different file types into the research article. Figshare easily integrates with publishers to help them improve the submission process of different research formats, at a time when author preference is becoming a key factor in academic publishing.

The new functionality on Karger also allows the files to be discovered through a portal on Figshare: https://karger.figshare.com/. The partnership will help Karger fulfil the growing requests from funders for academics to make all of their research outputs available.
