TL;DR Shorts: Courtney Hohne on the Translation of Research

12th March 2024

Happy TL;DR Tuesday! Today’s episode of TL;DR Shorts takes us on a journey from research to reality. We may think that the translation of research into a real-world application should happen in the quickest time, but does that mean we are creating the best possible solution for society? Courtney Hohne‘s take on it is that by taking our time and creating organizational structures to give developers space, we can create more meaningful solutions to tackle the challenges we face.

Courtney is a founder and builder of moonshot factories; spaces housing teams working on projects focused on overcoming specific challenges within an organizational structure that has lower and fewer hurdles to clear to achieve their goals. Given her experience, Courtney is perfectly placed to share her thoughts on how we can help facilitate the translation of research from publication to practical societal impact.

Founder and creator of moonshot factories Courtney Hohne shares her thoughts on how we can take research from publication to positive societal impact and how these things cannot be rushed but rather must be done considerately and with the user community in mind. During over a decade at X, the moonshot factory, Courtney worked closely with the team to bring a range of ideas from research to reality, from self-driving cars to functional hot air balloons improving internet connectivity for isolated communities. Courtney is now taking everything she learned on her journey and supporting other people with big ideas through mentoring, championing and advising them on how best to grow and develop that idea and turn it into an implementable solution. We can’t wait to see what Courtney is working on!
